Revision of About DorkbotPDX from Fri, 05/04/2007 - 07:35

The revisions let you track differences between multiple versions of a post.

Dorkbot PDX has crawled out of the womb and is in the now permanent (revolutionary) process of defining itself. It was stirred into evolutionary being by a young visionary named Thomas Lockney who called out to various people. Many of whom began to oscillate differently. Some joined the dorkbot-pdx mailing list, some created DorkbotPdx Wiki Pages, and many others have met up for beers and brainstorming and good-time-having at the local brew pubs.

After some of us went home having an odd sort of blind date feeling at least one person asked the question that was on the tips of our tongues (but that we were afraid to ask, having allowed the workday to determine the amount of sedative to use in leaving the clock). The question was....NOW WHAT???

We welcome you to join us and to bring something interesting to view or ponder. Hands-on electronic items are highly encouraged! Show and tell warrants mega ultra bonus points!

Ways Forward

  • Meet often and informally (see /PdxSchedule for gathering info)
    • Keep all "BUSINESS" and structure to a minimum at meetings
      • (Definition: "BUSINESS" = things involving structure, money, space, promotion, and logistics and other things that make the events happen at the expense of our personnel time an energy).
      • Business will be kept as much as possible in the realm of email and other while we are "backgrounding" at work situations (hopefully while being payed by our respective employers).
      • Meetings must MAXIMIZE creativity, AND possibility.
    • formal meetings fall into two classes.
      • Technical workshops for dorks like us.
      • Performances for those who want to be entertained, intimidated or have their consciousnesses moved beyond the ordinary.
      • These may be combined into a singular "formal" event.
  • Brainstorm about alternative content to lenin's "What is to be done".
    • Leverage the DorkbotPdxWiki to allow all members to contribute. (note that this does not effect the OFFICIAL DorkbotPdx page which Thomas controls).
      • Note that this still needs to define PDXs unique vision of what this page looks like.
    • Decide if this is to be a collaborative democracy or some sort of members only club
      • if we politicize in general can we either bring boxing gloves wonder bras and helmets or can we laugh now or should we take it out on some revolutionary robotic battle ground?
    • Provide for participation criteria
    • Establish some form of charter and perhaps organizational structure.
  • Start submitting proposals to local events such as the annual recycled art competition
    • The light and sound gallery and the main Gallery at the Portland art center has 12 openings for 2007 and the submissions for this year end at the end of September. (I am submitting at least one proposal outside of this group. -DdDD)
    • PORTLAND ADULT SOAPBOX DERBY 2007 (enter in spring)
  • Keep throwing out ideas and talking.
    • Even if this isn't the right framework they will grow on their own.
    • Create an informal but regular meeting time outside of the official meetings.
  • Create a list of projects that people think are relevant to this group and share them.
  • Create a list of goals that we would like to see this group create
    • Guerrilla theater
    • Artist and School assistance and collaboration.
    • Performance
    • Forum and collaboration medium.
